Rollercoaster Rides

Well this is a bit of a roller coaster ride. Yesterday my weight spiked back up. Today, we're close to where I "hope" we really are. I had a good day overall. Ate lunch with K at El Dorado (if you're ever there, try the Pollo Fiesta for a change from the usual Tex Mex fare). We then ate tuna steaks and veggies for dinner. That and the normal (mostly good) snacks throughout the day kept the food intake in line with where it should be.

We then ran 6.3mi. It was a very hard start. My legs are surprisingly still shot from the Mullet Haul run last weekend, but after about three or four miles my body seemed to start getting in its normal groove. Plan is to run tonight again so we can fit two runs in during the week this week.

Exercise: 6.3 i in 64 min (~ 10:06/mi)

Fast gains, fast misery

I got on the scale this morning. I skipped yesterday (again) as I had a bad day the day before. I got on the scale this morning and ended up remembering the last time I was going through this and I stopped. It's because I worked pretty hard and ended up higher than when i started.

I weighed in at 230lbs this morning. I ate pretty well yesterday, just lean protein, fruits, veggies. The day before, I did do poorly, but poorly within the context of how I'm eating now. I didn't eat WAY over my baseline caloric burn... So after eating badly (within context) two days ago, and reasonably well yesterday, I'm rewarded with a HUGH GAIN!

I don't expect things to be a straight line, but going up to where you started when you're generally doing the right things is incredibly frustrating. Why not just go nuts at all our favorite restaurants if I'm going to gain faster weight by eating lean protein, lots of veggies, and fruit?

Slow gains

As predicted a few days ago... A big drop day just leaves you depressed for the next week as you crawl back to that number. I weighed in today just a bit more than yesterday... going up and up - close to where we were a few days ago.

Had a really bad eating day yesterday: Jack's Cosmic Dogs off of Folly Beach (one of our favorites), then K wanted to do Mexican last night... That's always a problem for me with the chips, cheese, etc. I had a "Fajita salad", much like a Taco salad but with more onion/peppers instead of guacamole. I also enjoyed 4 chips with cheese. 4.

I'm struggling to find acceptable options at these places we go. Jack's really has no good options. I went for the veggie dog and had probably 1/4 of the fries I would normally have eaten. (Fries/chips are my downfall. We've had my favorite chips in the house for over a week and I haven't touched one.

But it was a beautiful day for a 2mi walk at the beach. Tide was very high so the ride to Folly was prettier than usual. The beach is starting to get a bit full of people - you can tell Spring and Summer are on their way.

Mulletts, 10 mile runs, and refusing to weigh in

First week and I've already refused to weigh in for a day given how I at the day before. Need to make sure that doesn't happen again. I got up yesterday and just wouldn't log the daily weight.

But we did the Mullett Run (10mi run) on Johns Island yesterday. 10 miles is about as far as I go right now and it was a bit tough out there being basically totally alone for the second loop in the race (very few folks opt for the 10 mi race, instead they do the 5 miler). All in all it wasn't an embarrassing performance and K finished great as well.

I did weigh in this morning, and as expected up a couple of pounds from the last weigh in. I knew it was coming after the ridiculous drop the other day.

Weight Today: 226.4
Exercise: 10 mi/1:41:00 (10:06/mi)

Scale Insanity

As much as I dread the scale not moving much (like all of this week), I actually most hate to see the scale drop precipitously for no reason. You can't stop yourself from feeling excited about the "big drop" when you know that it's going to go up tomorrow and be above this "new low" for quite awhile. That's very, very disheartening. So I can tell you the next week of weigh-ins will be tougher than I would like this early.

I need to find a good balance for the food intake. I'm getting enough calories (I'm not cutting too far down as I won't stick to it), but I was quite light headed yesterday before the run. The run was tough, I lacked energy the whole time, but was able to do more than the plan, albeit significantly slower than the run earlier this week.

Getting back to veggies instead of chips and sesame sticks is definitely a good thing and not all that difficult once you just say you're going to do it.

Exercise last night: Run 6mi, Pace 10:20
Weight: 224.5 lbs (a severe drop)

Once again...

Like many, I've had it "once again". Watching it go up and down has been very frustrating over the past 9 years (since I first lost ~ 60 lbs going from 260 to 199 for a brief stint).

We moved mid last year and the stress of that, trying to get a startup off the ground, then trying to find paying work (after really not being paid for 2+ years) has "given me permission" to continue/increase bad habits.

I'm starting at 231 lbs this time (initial weigh in last weekend). At least it's not the 249 I saw while going back over my prior history. Daily weigh ins and food/exercise progress to be posted.

Today: 228.4 lbs
Goal: 185 lbs
